Possible, but the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Navy operate very differently and they both have very separate ship designs.

they are different but they both are built to haul ass while putting up with some serious conditions.

Good looking ship. But I remember Peter Jay Brown saying in his Ecoterrorist: "We buy crap ships".

Honestly, would you expect someone on the helm of this kind of vessel to ram? It's just not made for that.

Does anyone think that there will be 2 new ships? they did decide to get one even before Sam Simon was funding it. so now, they have one ship pretty much just given to them, and then they can buy one. they should have the money of lawsuits and such didnt take it all.

I would say the real issue is operating costs of having 2 more...

There's no point of having 2 new ships. 4 ships and a possible 2nd helicopter is plenty.

Now that's a ship, looks like a step up from the stealth ship they just scraped. It would be a great scout vessel, wonder how it would handle the ice.

It is confirmed that the SSCS fleet will have 2 helicopters, that the ship will be named "Sam Simon", it was found in Germany, and it was a former German-govt ship.

The vessel is indeed of excellent quallity, has some very unique features, built in germany, and has minor protection against ice.

and  a "freee ship" still costs a massive ammounts of money, its said owning a ship is like standing in a cold shower and dropping $100 bills down the drain like fueling taxes birthing fees Maintenance, luxuries on board, feeding crew, taking care of crew .

Hmm... When I heard the ship was German, my thoughts went directly back to this one: http://commercial.ap...phtml?id=218093 Still available though.

that would make an excellent ofshore patrol vessel  but would be beyond useless in any, long ocean going campaign
no cool quote

And yet about 65 years ago Japan and Germany were allies with gear fighting side by side against shared enemies. And now it looks like there could be equipment used for fighting against each other made by the countries that used to be allies.
Funny how the world changes with enemies and friends through acts of war.

That is a sea rescue ship, doubt it has the necessary range. But southern ocean storms wouldn't be an issue for these at all.

It's possible we don't see her until she makes her presence known in the southern ocean. Keep her whereabouts and what she looks like a secret and have her sneak up on the fleet like the Bob Barker did 2 yrs back.
